The Green Factory

Once a good level of Lean deployment has been achieved, the next stage is to add on the Green element.

This combines the concept of environmental savings with continuous improvement and employee involvement. In a similar way to manufacturing and business process improvement, an environmental value stream map is created to identify the excessive waste and use of environmental resources – energy, eater, gas, chemicals etc.

Once this has been identified, ideas for elimination, reduction and re-use of these environmental resources are developed and implemented to reduce the overall environmental impact of the operation.

Conversely, it demonstrates how environmental thinking can be combined successfully as an add-on to established lean implementation.
